Troubleshooting

Basic

My AEION dash cam is not powering up, nor is it turning on. How do I fix it?

If your Aeion dash cam doesn't power on when you start the car, you may want to try:
  • Unplug and re-plug all the cables carefully.

  • Check the condition of the dash cam's power cable and Cigarette Lighter Adapter.

  • If the dash cam is hardwired, check the power connections, fuses and cut-off voltage/time settings.

  • Take out the camera's SD card and connect it to your computer. Does it format properly over the computer?

  • If the Aeion camera is properly receiving power, the blue recording light blinks or is stationary, please check the blue LED of the dashcam.

Here are some additional troubleshooting tips for you:

  1. If your dash cam is connected to a hardwiring kit, please check if the dash cam powers on without using the hardwire kit. You can do so by using the included 12V cigarette adapter inserted directly to the vehicle's 12V socket. If the dash cam does power in this way, then we can determine the issue is with the hardwire kit.

  2. If your dash cam is not hardwired or if the dash cam does not power on with the 12V cigarette socket, please try connecting it to another car or power outlet to check if the issue is with the power outlet of car

My smartphone doesn't connect to dashcam's Wi-fi, how to fix it?

Follow the below steps and try connecting the dashcam after each step to check if it solves the issue.

  1. 1. Turn off the cellular data network (3G- LTE) of your phone and try to connect to direct Wi-fi.

  2. Turn on the Location in the app settings of your phone and try to connect.

  3. If you are using an Android phone, turn off the "Smart Network switch" on your phone. If you are using an iPhone, turn off "Wifi Assist".

  4.  Erase the stored information of the dashcam's Wi-Fi in your smartphone's Wi-Fi settings:-Android: press and hold the dashcam's Wi-Fi SSID and when the pop-up appears, click on"Forget Network".-IOS: Click on the info icon and then click on "Forget this Network".

  5. Turn off the Wi-Fi of your smartphone. Also, turn OFF the dashcam, wait for 10~15 seconds and turn it back on. Now turn on your smartphone's Wi-Fi and try to connect to the dashcam.

  6. If the above doesn't solve the issue, Reset the dashcam's Wi-Fi password or upgrade the dashcam's firmware and try again.* Please note that the dashcam's Wi-Fi password is case sensitive, which means that the upper case and lower case letters are different. For example, " A " and " a " are considered different letters.

  7. Sometimes, a particular smartphone may fail to connect to the dashcam's Wi-Fi. If possible, try to connect to the dashcam's Wi-Fi by using another smartphone and send us the model number and OS version of the smartphone that can't be connected to the dashcam's Wi-Fi.

Note:

  • To connect your smartphone to the Aeion dashcam's Wi-Fi, stay near the dashcam (the distance between the dashcam and the smartphone should not be more than 10m [32 ft])

  • Check if the LED on the dashcam is ON or blinking. If it isn't, unplug and re-plug the cable to turn it ON or restart the dashcam.

  • The dashcam’s Wi-Fi SSID should appear almost instantly in the Wi-Fi networks menu of the smartphone when the dashcam boots up or when turned on by pressing the Wi-Fi button. However, in order to establish a connection successfully, it is recommended to wait for 15~20 seconds to let the Wi-Fi set up properly.

  • Only one phone or tablet can be connected to a BlackVue dashcam at a time. For this reason, make sure that the dashcam is not connected to any other device when you are trying to connect to it.

The dashcam's Wi-Fi disconnects from the smartphone, how to fix it?

For a smooth Wi-Fi connection of your smartphone to the Aeion dashcam's Wi-Fi, the distance between the dashcam and the smartphone should not be more than 10m (32ft).

Strong radio interference due to other electronic devices in the car can affect the Wi-Fi connectivity of the dashcam and it might randomly disconnect from the smartphone. To troubleshoot this issue, turn off all other electronic devices and try to connect again OR take out the dashcam from the mount, power it up at home using a common power adapter and try to connect your smartphone to its Wi-Fi.

For Android Users:

  • Before connecting any Android device to the dashcam, make sure to turn off the “Smart Network Switch” option in the Wi-Fi settings of the smartphone. Aeion acts as a Wi-Fi server for your phone or tablet, but it does not provide a connection to the Internet, so the “Smart Network Switch” function might cause it to disconnect from the BlackVue.

  • In some android devices with Android OS 6.0 onward, turning on the location in the application permissions might solve the connectivity issue  (go to Settings -> Apps (or Applications) -> Application manager -> Aeion -> Permissions -> Location, choose “Allow”)

For iPhone Users:

  • Before connecting your iPhone to the dashcam, make sure that the “Wi-Fi Assist” option is turned off (Go to Settings > Cellular. Then scroll down and tap the slider to turn off Wi-Fi Assist).

Check if other LED lights are on. If none of the LED lights is on, try to reload the firmware again. Format the SD card and copy the firmware to the empty card.

If nothing happens, there is a possibility that the camera itself does not turn on. The camera may need some repair work.
If at least one of the LED lights is on (e.g. GPS LED or REC LED), try to reload the firmware again. Format the SD card and copy the firmware to the empty card.

If nothing happens, the camera is not proceeding to normal booting. The camera may need some repair work.

SD Card

What are usual SD Card Errors and how to troubleshoot them?

No SD Card

The camera does not recognize the SD card

Make sure that the card is inserted in its slot in the camera.

If the camera continues to sound the error message, format the SD card and try again.

If formatting the SD card does not fix the issue, try a different SD card.

Check SD Card

The camera does not recognize the SD card. There could also be a bad sector/portion of the SD card.

Over time, the SD card will degrade in performance and bad sectors/portions will start to occur due to the repetitive cycle of date writing and overwriting. The SD card can get 'bricked' overtime.

Format the SD card and insert it back to the slot in the camera. If the issue persists, try a different SD card.

No recordings found

The camera continues to record like usual but no recordings can be found on the SD card.

Due to SD card error, the camera cannot produce records and save them on the card.

Format the SD card and insert it back to the slot in the camera. If the issue persists, try a different SD card.

If using a second SD card does not fix the issue, there could be an issue with the camera and might need some repair. Send us an email to cs@aeion.io for further assistance.

How does the dashcam record in Parking mode?

All Aeion dashcams turn to Parking Mode automatically by default once the vehicle is stationary for a few minutes. If the car is parked and the engine is turned off, the dashcam will keep recording only if it is hardwired to the car's battery using  3-wire hardwiring cable (Only for DRS-1CH, DRS-1CH GPS doesn't support this feature.)

The Aeion keeps recording all the time in Parking Mode, but without writing to the microSD card. The video is recorded only if  an impact is detected, creating a video file that starts 5 seconds before the triggering event (using the buffer memory) and saving that file to the memory card.

If you want the dashcam to be recording during Parking mode all the time, you can choose  the "Time Lapse mode" in Camera Settings->Parking Mode Recording -> Time Lapse
